British
born oboist Anna Starr grew up in
Australia, and now lives in The Netherlands where she enjoys music-making with
musicians from all over the world. Anna specialises on historical oboes,
subscribing to the philosophy that original instruments tell the performer so
much about how the composer intended his work to be played, and that each
pieces story is more easily translated with the aid of the instrument for which
it was written.
Anna Starr has an affinity with all genres of the oboe literature, from the solo
sonata to the cantata and the symphony, but has a special love for the chamber
music repertoire. With her chamber group, the
Halcyon Ensemble, she enjoys the
privilege of exploring the rich repertoire of classical and romantic chamber
music with wind instruments.
On this website, you can find information about what Anna
Starr does, as well as
information about the oboe and its history.
When not blowing down an oboe, Anna
Starrs passions include walking in forests,
cooking fine food, and guinea pigs.
